The country’s main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), is witnessing a mixed trend in both index movements and trading volume. On some days, the index rises while the total transaction value declines; on other days, trading volume improves but the index falls. Under these circumstances, on Wednesday — the fourth working day of the week — the DSE recorded its lowest transaction volume in the past four months.
Trading Statistics
According to the data, on Wednesday (October 22), a total of 397 companies’ shares and units were traded on the DSE. Among them, 145 gained in price, 178 declined, and 74 remained unchanged. Of the securities that saw a price drop, 81 were from the ‘A’ category, 44 from the ‘B’ category, and 53 from the ‘Z’ category.
Despite the selling pressure, the index increased slightly. The DSE’s main index, DSEX, rose by 5 points compared to the previous day, closing at 5,095 points. This marks the lowest transaction level since June 19, when the total trading value stood at Tk 305 crore.
